Workbook SupportSoftwareThis book contains a 180-day trial of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 software on DVD (ArcView demo edition) that is limited to one-time use only. The software cannot be reinstalled nor can the time limit be extended. If you purchased the book used and you receive an error message about an expired or near-expiration trial period, we recommend that you return the book to the bookstore for a refund and that you purchase a new unused copy. Exercise ErrataTutorial 5, page 141: The ESRI World Basemap Data link described in step 3 is no longer available, and so pages 141 through 145 do not work. Students are encouraged to explore the Geography Network more extensively or visit www.geodata.gov. Assignment 5-1, page 187: The fourth paragraph says to save files as Assignment 5-2.jpg and Assignment 5-2.doc. Because this is assignment 5-1, the files should instead be saved as Assignment 5-1.jpg and Assignment 5-1.doc.
Assignment 5-2, page 188: The last instructions at the bottom of the page should read: Assignment 5-2, page 189: Paragraph three should say "Add the county coverage" and not "Add retired coverage." Assignment 5-2, page 189: The seventh paragraph says to save files as Assignment 5-1.jpg and Assignment 5-1.doc. Because this is Assignment 5-2, the files should instead be saved as Assignment 5-2.jpg and Assignment 5-2.doc. Tutorial 6, page 207: Disregard step 3 under the heading Add evacuation shelter points. Assignment 6-1, page 225: Paragraph two calls for digitizing two new "polyline beats"; this should say "polygon beats." Assignment 6-1, page 225: Under "Create a police beat map," the first paragraph says to "import spatial reference data from Zone3.shp." This should read "Zone2.shp." Assignment 6-2, page 229: "What to turn in" asks readers to submit geodatabases, but the assignment does not ask them to create geodatabases. It should instead ask that shapefiles be submitted: Shapefiles Assignment 7-1, page 265: The first bullet under "Geocoding and spatial joining hints" calls for geocoding the ZIP Codes in HHWZipcodes.csv. This should be HHWZipcodes.dbf. Assignment 7-2, page 267: Ignore the instruction not to turn in interim files that are not in your final map (e.g., HHW participants geocoded point shapefile). Assignment 7-2, page 267: "What to turn in" should include C:\Gistutorial\Answers\Assignment7\ForeignBusinesses.shp. Assignment 9-2, page 337: The Word document under "What to turn in" should be Assignment9-1.doc, not Assignment9.doc. Assignment 9-2, page 337: "What to turn in" should include EarthquakesPlus7 and not Earthquakes or MajorCACities.
