Originally published in French, Jean Poulit's Connecting People While Preserving the Planet: Essays on Sustainable Development offers philosophical insights that hinge on striking a balance between prosperity, well-being, and respect for our living planet. In this book, Poulit contests generally accepted ideas of transportation and quality of life by suggesting that if even a small part of a nation's wealth is dedicated to combating the negative environmental effects of human activity, balance will be achieved. Based on reasearch and observations conducted over more than 30 years, Connecting People While Preserving the Planet will prove illuminating to futurists, transportation officials, urban planners, government officials, and environmentalists worldwide.

Jean Poulit has had a long career in French public administration, especially as an urban planner. Prior to his recent retirement Poulit was director general of a new national agency for energy saving and head of developing the Marne La Vallee area east of Paris. As a préfet, he was responsible for the entire Île de France region. Poulit also was director general of the Institut Geographique National, the French national mapping agency, and president of CERCO, and later vice president of EuroGeographics.
