Mapping Our World was first released in 2002 for ArcView 3. This version was released in 2005 with a CD containing ArcView 9.0. That CD has recently been replaced by a CD with ArcView 9.1. There are some very slight interface changes between 9.0 and 9.1, but these should not interfere with operation of the lessons.
The ArcView 9.1 CD has the same 365-day timeout period and license terms, and users need to go through a registration process just as they would have with ArcView 9.0. In a school setting, the software is licensed for use on any number of instructional computers at the school and on teachers' home computers. Experience has shown that the easiest way for a school to do the registration and authorization is as follows:
- 1. Install the software.
- 2. Engage the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator to conduct the registration, but choose to register by receiving an authorization by email.
- 3. Go through the registration process as directed, connecting to the Internet as directed, and providing a valid email address. At the conclusion of the process, the system will send an auto-generated email with a very small (about 1 kb) file attached containing authorization information.
- 4. Save the attachment to a file in a desired location on the network, and/or to a USB drive.
- 5. In the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator, under "Register", indicate that you have received an authorization file and need to authorize the software. Point the software to the file you saved in Step #4.
- 6. Repeat Steps #1 and #5 on any other computers at the school.
- 7. After installation and authorization, ESRI recommends applying the latest service pack, which can be downloaded from HERE.
