Updated for the third edition using ArcGIS® Pro software, Understanding GIS: An ArcGIS® Pro Project Workbook is the first textbook on the market to teach how to use real-world data to develop a GIS project, from start to finish. This book lets you assume the role of a GIS analyst challenged with finding the best location for a new park along the Los Angeles River in Southern California. The book provides the starting data and guidance for using ArcGIS Pro software to perform a complete GIS analysis, map the findings, and share the results on interactive web maps.

Results data is provided in the event that you don’t complete an exercise or run into trouble. The resulting project files contain data, maps, and layouts. The Understanding GIS project builds from one lesson to the next, so if you don’t complete a lesson, you must download the results for that lesson.

Lesson results

1)      Click a link below to download a ZIP file of lesson results.

2)      Use a zipfile extraction program to extract the files to C:\UGIS\LessonResults\exercise<#>.

3)     Open the LARiver_ParkSite.aprx in the extracted folder (e.g., C:\UGIS\LessonResults\exercise1a) and complete the lesson as written, using this folder as the project workspace. There may be times in the lesson that ask you to reference a file path directly at C:\UGIS, but use this lesson results folder instead.
